2023 DENTON Estate Pinot Noir
2023 DENTON Estate Pinot Noir
SOIL TYPE Granite/ Granitic Loam
ASPECT North-East
VINEYARD Most of this fruit comes off the close-planted Pinot block right up the top of the northeast slope. All MV6 vines, planted tight at 1.5 x 0.8 metres, with roots that run deep. It’s powerful Pinot, but still carries the line and lift that granite brings. The block gets soft morning sun and stays protected from the worst of the weather - a sweet, sheltered pocket.
VINIFICATION Picked on March 15, a little later than the year before. Fermented with 10% whole bunches and left on skins for 12 days with gentle pumpovers. Pressed to French oak puncheons, onethird of them new, then left to do its thing for 10 months. Bottled without fining or filtration.
VINTAGE 2023 gave us time - cool, calm and even. Pinot Noir relished it. Flavour came on slow and steady, acid stayed poised and everything ripened in sync. No rushing, no overthinking... just nice and ripe.
“A medium ruby garnet. A little reduction, which quickly blows off to reveal aromas of wild strawberries, damson plums, a little rose petal and subtle hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. there’s good intensity on the medium bodied palate together with fine but firm tannins . This will only get better over the next 4-6 years, if not longer”95 Points - Phillip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
